  1. Existing medical records (e.g., office, operative, pathology)
  2. History and physical examination
  3. Female anatomic grid map to localize pain graphically
  4. Color duplex Doppler ultrasound of ovarian cysts
  5. Chlamydia and Neisseria antibody titers
  6. Hysterosalpingogram and hysteroscopy (selective)

 

  1. Diagnostic laparoscopy

 

  1. Systematic inspection of abdomen and pelvis and palpation of suspicious lesions
  2. Photo documentation
  3. Biopsy confirmation

  2. Dictation of operative report immediately after each surgery
  3. Intravenous pyelogram (IVP) for ureteral involvement, left-frozen- pelvis, frozen pelvis
  4. Sigmoidoscopy for bowel involvement
  5. Original staging: benchmark from which to measure the regression, stability, or progression of the disease (as in cancer)
  6. Staging: essential to establish early the clinical course of the disease in each patient
