DIAGNOSIS

Positive Frei test

Intradermal chlamydial antigen

Nonspecific for all Chlamydia

No longer available (historical significance only)

Complement fixation test

Titer greater than 1:64 in active infection.

Convalescent titers no difference.

Cell culture of Chlamydia: Aspiration of fluctuant node yields highest rates of recovery.

 

 

 

TREATMENT

Doxycycline, 100 mg PO, bid x 21 days (treatment of choice)

Erythromycin base, 500 mg PO, qid x 21 days

Surgical

Aspirate fluctuant nodes

Incise and drain abscesses
