Non hormonal treatment of hot flashes

If a woman, who is in the period of menopause, does not want or can’t take hormonal agents, then it is advisable to use non-hormonal agents to reduce menopausal symptoms (including hot flashes).

In mild cases, the lifestyle modification may be quite effective. For example, the experts of the North American Menopause Society (NAMS) recommend the following methods for women with mild vasomotor symptoms:

–                     body cooling, by dint of cooling fans, for example;

–                     physical exercises;

–                     avoiding hot and spicy food;

–                     relaxation techniques such as yoga, massage, meditation, slow breathing, baths;

–                     psychotherapy.
