Retin-A (active ingredient Tretinoin) is the vitamin A acid form. It is supplied in tubes of 20g (0.025% and 0.05% strength).
Retin-A is used to treat mild or moderate acne, and also the ageing effects on the face, including wrinkles, “age spots” and fine lines. It unclogs pores and does peeling of affected areas of skin.
Retin-A reduces the production of sebum by skin. Sebum is an oily substance that blocks pores, which leads to inflammation, spots and blackheads.
Usually Retin-A is applied once in a day before sleep. When using this medicine follow your doctor’s instructions. Tell him if you are allergic to any medicines, if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
During first week of use you may see that your acne is getting worse. But don’t give up applying Retin-A – wait a bit longer and acne sores will disappear. Improvement is usually seen in 2-3 weeks. Before applying Retin-A wash affected areas and hands with mild soap, then wait for half an hour to be sure your skin is absolutely dry. Apply the medication to the affected skin only.
