TREATMENT OF DISSEMINATED GONORRHEA

 

2002 CDC guidelines: Ceftriaxone, 1 g IM or intravenous (IV), q24h

Alternative initial regimens

Cefotaxime, 1 g IV, q8h

Ceftizoxime, 1 g IV, q8h

Ofloxacin, 400 mg IV, ql2h d. Levofloxacin, 250 mg IV, qd

(3-Laotam allergic persons

Spectinomycin, 2 g IM, ql2h

Continue all regimens for 24 to 48 hours after improvement, then switch to one of the following regimens to complete a full week of therapy:

Cefixime, 400 mg PO, bid

Ciprofloxacin, 500 mg PO, bid
